Mike originally hails from Scotland but now has made his home in the beautiful South Pacific paradise of Fiji.
After university (also in Scotland) and a wee world tour, he ended up in the military for 6 years. Then, after 18 months in S. America teaching English as a foreign language (TEFL) he completed his DM in Costa Rica on his way to California. There he joined a family from Palo Alto and spent 2 ½ years with them, skippering their boat around the South Pacific.
Ending up in Fiji (with his kilt), managing a boat repair business, he got back into diving and after obtaining his PADI OWSI qualification, bought Viti Water Sports (VWS) in 2007. (Viti is the original name for Fiji.) With a life of its own, the company expanded, contracted and is now firmly focused on supporting Fiji’s large dive industry, especially in the West of Fiji where they are based, through servicing, inspections and sales - VWS is the Scubapro dealer in Fiji, as well as a Cressi, Bauer and Coltri rep.
With Fiji improving its government oversight of the dive industry and OHS, Mike is keen to facilitate these changes by training people involved in the dive industry, pushing for PSI-PCI’s aim of achieving zero tank failures.
